Rachel Platten is set to re-release her hit single Fight Song as part of a new re-recorded album titled Fight Song (Rachel’s Version), scheduled for release on September 26.
The project, announced via Instagram on Monday, marks a decade since the original song’s debut in 2015 and follows in the footsteps of Taylor Swift’s well-known efforts to reclaim ownership of her music through re-recordings.
The new collection will include refreshed versions of several tracks from Platten’s 2016 breakout album Wildfire, including Stand by You, along with live versions of select songs and what she described as “a surprise from the vault.” The album was produced by Jon Levine, who also worked on the original Wildfire album.
Reflecting on the impact of Fight Song, which peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 and gained national attention as a campaign anthem for Hillary Clinton in 2016, Platten wrote, “I had no idea when I wrote these songs in moments of vulnerability that they would go on to change my life.”
Platten emphasized that the re-recordings are not meant to reinvent the music, but to reclaim ownership of it. “These songs are infused with the voice I have now, the wisdom I’ve gained, and the undeniable pride of owning my own masters,” she said.
The singer also acknowledged Taylor Swift’s influence in sparking the broader artist-led movement to regain control over music rights. “I’m so grateful to Taylor Swift for bringing this conversation to light and empowering artists to take back control over their work,” she said.
In 2024, Platten released her latest studio album, I Am Rachel Platten, marking her return to music after her 2017 project Waves.
