Islamabad is set to introduce free Wi-Fi services at 30 key locations across the capital, including commercial centres, public transport stations, and parks.
The decision was finalised during a meeting chaired by Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA), Muhammad Ali Randhawa, the Associated Press of Pakistan reported on Monday.
The first phase of the initiative will cover high-traffic areas, such as main commercial markets, metro and feeder bus stations, and recreational spaces.

“The facility will ensure that the maximum number of citizens benefit from modern connectivity, easing access to digital services and bridging communication gaps,” officials said during the meeting.
Randhawa emphasised the need for a sustainable operational and marketing model, with revenue generated being reinvested into maintaining and upgrading the Wi-Fi system.
“No effort should be spared to digitise Islamabad and turn it into a free Wi-Fi city. All necessary resources must be utilised to ensure uninterrupted, top-quality facilities for citizens,” he said.

The National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) will be responsible for operating and maintaining the system, with the CDA’s technical team offering support for smooth execution.
The initiative, part of the vision of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and directives from Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, aims to make Islamabad a fully-connected "free Wi-Fi city". Senior officials from the CDA and NTC, including NTC Managing Director Major General (R) Ali Farhan, attended the session.
