
Heavy overnight rain in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad left 22 people stranded in floodwater at Gorakhpur village on Adiala Road, Rawalpindi.
Rescue 1122 personnel launched an emergency operation and successfully evacuated all those trapped, moving them to safety.
According to reports, the downpour began late on Saturday and continued into Sunday morning. The highest rainfall was recorded in Saidpur at 58 millimetres, followed by Golra with 55 mm, H-8/2 with 43 mm, Shamsabad with 31 mm, Katariyan with 28 mm, Bokra with 27 mm, Kacheri Chaklala with 27 mm, Gawalmandi with 21 mm, and Pirwadhai with 18 mm.
Water levels in Nullah Leh rose to 6.5 feet at Katariyan and 5.5 feet at Gawalmandi, though both remained within the normal range. Even so, the Pakistan Meteorological Department, district administration, and Rescue 1122 officials continued to monitor the situation closely.
Although the rain eased by morning, flash floods were reported at several points along stormwater drains. At Gorakhpur village on Adiala Road, floodwater entered makeshift huts, trapping 22 residentsincluding 12 children, five women, and five men.
