In a shocking incident in Raja Akram Colony, within the jurisdiction of Civil Lines Police Station, a man, along with his teenage son, allegedly threw acid on his wife and younger son during a domestic dispute. Police have registered a case and arrested both suspects.
According to the victim, Maryam Farooq, her husband, Farooq Nadeem, does not work, while she supports the family by running a small beauty parlour at home. She has four children - two sons, 17-year-old Umar Farooq and 13-year-old Daud Farooq, and two daughters.
Maryam stated that while she was at home with her younger son and daughters, her husband and elder son entered the house. The husband began abusing and assaulting her, then grabbed a bottle of acid from Umar and threw it at her and one of her daughters. The acid struck Maryam's arm. The father and son then attacked the younger boy, Daud, throwing acid on his face, leaving him seriously injured.
Neighbours rushed to help after hearing screams and managed to rescue the victims. Following the incident, City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi, Syed Khalid Hamdani, took notice and directed Civil Lines Police to arrest the culprits immediately.
A police spokesperson confirmed that both the husband and son were taken into custody. Initial investigations revealed that bathroom acid was used in the attack during a family quarrel. The injured mother and son were shifted to the hospital, where doctors declared their condition out of danger. After treatment, they were discharged and sent home.
Police emphasised that crimes against women and children are intolerable, and assured that the suspects would be prosecuted with solid evidence to ensure strict punishment.
