The phased repatriation of temporarily displaced persons (TDPs) from Mamond tehsil has officially begun, with families from Tarkho village in Loy Mamond starting their dignified return on Friday, officials confirmed.
According to the district administration, security forces have fully cleared Tarkho village, allowing local residents to return home. Officials added that the repatriation process for displaced families from other parts of Mamond will also be carried out in phases to ensure order and security.
The administration lauded the patience and resilience of the affected communities. Member Provincial Assembly and District Development Advisory Committee (DDAC) Chairman Dr Hameedur Rehman said families can now return safely, adding that those who missed initial registration will be able to complete the process later within their village. He assured that all returning families will receive a government-sponsored cash package, disbursed through SIM-based transfers.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has expanded relief and rehabilitation operations for Bajaur's displaced families. Thousands remain accommodated at the Bajaur Sports Complex camp as well as in government buildings and shelters.
PDMA officials reported that over 10,000 families have been registered so far, a figure expected to rise to 18,000 or approximately 126,000 individuals, including women and children.
"Relief operations are in full swing," said Sobia Hassam Toru, Director Complex Emergencies Wing (CEW), PDMA, during a visit to the sports complex camp. "Each registered family is being provided a one-time cash grant of Rs50,000, while Rs25,000 will be given upon return. Additionally, the chief minister has approved an extra Rs15,000 per family for ration support."
To facilitate registration, NADRA has set up a special desk in Bajaur with female staff to assist women. Alongside cash grants, PDMA, in partnership with the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) and other aid groups, is also providing tents.
