PS5 becomes more expensive in the US. as Sony adjusts pricing
Sony’s decision to increase prices comes as all PS5 models remain readily available through major US. retailers

Sony has officially increased the prices of its PlayStation 5 consoles in the United States, adjusting costs across the standard, digital, and Pro models. The updated pricing structure sees the disc-equipped PS5 now retailing at $549.99, while the Digital Edition climbs to $499.99. The high-end PS5 Pro, first launched in late 2024, is now listed at $749.99, making it the most expensive mainstream console currently available.
At launch in November 2020, the PS5 debuted at $499 for the disc version and $399 for the Digital Edition — meaning both core models have now seen a $50 price increase over time. The PS5 Pro, designed with enhanced performance and visual fidelity in mind, continues to serve as Sony’s flagship model.
Sony’s updated pricing aligns with a broader trend in the console market. Earlier this year, Microsoft raised prices on both the Xbox Series S and X, while also introducing a $729 version of the Series X featuring 2TB of storage.
Despite the console price hike, accessories remain unaffected. The optional PS5 disc drive, for instance, still retails for $79.99, and there are no announced changes to peripheral pricing at this time.
Sony’s decision to increase prices comes as all PS5 models remain readily available through major US. retailers, signalling a stable supply chain and a renewed focus on the premium segment of the market.
