Bella Thorne has responded to criticism after she proposed to her fiancé Mark Emms two years after he originally popped the question.
The 27-year-old actress and singer shared photos and clips on Instagram of the romantic moment. In her caption she wrote, "3 years ago we met, 1 year later he proposed, Now 1 year later so did I." The images showed Thorne kneeling in front of Emms with a ring box, surrounded by candles, flowers and red heart-shaped balloons spelling out "I Love You."
While many fans congratulated her, some expressed disapproval. One widely liked comment read: "Ok ladies let’s not normalise this, okay?" The remark received nearly 80,000 likes.
Thorne reacted to the mixed feedback the following day, calling the comments "hilarious." On Instagram Stories, she wrote, "Totally split down the middle. The couple first met at Cara Delevingne’s birthday party in Ibiza in 2022. Emms then proposed to Thorne in May 2023 at her California home with an emerald-cut diamond ring.
The actress told Vogue at the time that she envisioned a countryside wedding in the UK, where Emms is from.
