RAWALPINDI:

The Auqaf Department has decided to initiate legal proceedings to reclaim control of all state-owned shrines in Rawalpindi Division currently under private occupation.

The decision has been formally approved, with cases now being referred to the newly formed Crime Control Department.

There are currently 11 shrines under private control in the division, with land worth billions and monthly revenue in the millions. The government plans to recover full control over these properties and their income.

Secretary Auqaf and Chief Administrator Dr Raza Bukhari took serious notice of the failure to meet revenue targets and reclaim state assets despite repeated orders.

Raja Yasir Latif, Manager of the Rawalpindi Circle, has been suspended and transferred to Lahore headquarters. Iftikhar Silaria has been appointed as his replacement.

During a surprise visit to Rawalpindi, the administrator expressed strong dissatisfaction with the circle's performance, particularly the failure to regain control of Darbar Masoom Shah, Darbar Dhoke Khalu, and Darbar Rode Shah.

The revenue target for the Rawalpindi zone was Rs18.6 million, which was not met.
