Chris Hemsworth has responded to fan speculation that his viral “thank you” video marked the end of his role as Thor in Avengers: Doomsday, insisting it was never intended to signal a departure.
Hemsworth posted a video in May titled “Thank You! The Legacy of Thor”, in which he revisited his journey from early auditions through Endgame and Thor: Love and Thunder. The emotional tone led many to speculate that the character might meet his end in the upcoming film.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Hemsworth said the clip was meant as gratitude to fans and clarified that it was “certainly not the intent” to prompt concern.
He explained the post was collaboratively created by his social media team and himself, intended only as a celebration of the character’s legacy.
Hemsworth added that after filming the video, he received feedback that he may have unintentionally caused confusion.
“We didn’t do any damage control; there was no damage control necessary. But a lot was read into a little,” he said, and stressed that he is already embarking on “another chapter” with Thor.
Despite the speculation, Hemsworth’s remarks reinforce that he is continuing in the role and that the video was never meant as a farewell.
Fan theories had suggested a dramatic end for Thor, including a potential reunion with Loki and a grand finale inspired by the New Avengers (Vol. 3) #32 storyline. But Hemsworth’s clarification suggests his exit is far from final.
