Amazon MGM Studios has officially brought on Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight to pen the next installment in the James Bond franchise.
Following months of speculation and creative meetings, Knight was confirmed after aligning creatively with Denis Villeneuve, who was previously announced as the director of the upcoming 007 film.
The project marks a significant milestone for Amazon MGM Studios, which secured full creative control of the Bond franchise earlier this year after completing a $1 billion-plus acquisition. The studio is taking a careful approach to rebooting the legendary spy series, with Amy Pascal and David Heyman producing and Tanya Lapointe executive producing.
While casting for the new James Bond has not yet been decided, sources indicate that the immediate focus is on developing the script. Knight's appointment came after an extensive search, culminating in a final meeting with Villeneuve, who is currently working on Dune: Part Three.
Steven Knight’s writing credits include the BAFTA-winning Peaky Blinders, Taboo, See, and SAS: Rogue Heroes. His film credits include the Oscar-nominated Eastern Promises, Spencer, and Dirty Pretty Things. Knight also created the global game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?
This move signals a bold new chapter for the James Bond franchise, blending Knight’s gritty storytelling style with Villeneuve’s cinematic vision. Production timelines remain unclear, especially as Villeneuve finishes his Dune trilogy and Knight works on the Bond script.
Knight is repped by CAA, United Agents, and Davis Law Group. Fans should expect further announcements once the script progresses and casting begins.
