Dr. James Toliver Craig, a 47-year-old Colorado dentist, has been found guilty of murdering his wife, Angela Craig, by poisoning her with cyanide.
The conviction follows a high-profile three-week trial in Arapahoe County, where Craig was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Angela Craig, 43, died in March 2023 after a sudden medical decline marked by dizziness, blurred vision, and seizures. She was hospitalized multiple times before being declared brain-dead. An autopsy revealed the presence of cyanide and tetrahydrozoline, an ingredient in eye drops, leading to a homicide investigation.
Prosecutors alleged that Craig orchestrated the poisoning to escape a troubled marriage and pursue an affair with Texas orthodontist Dr. Karin Cain. Evidence included more than 4,000 messages exchanged between Craig and Cain in just 18 days. Testimony also revealed Craig was involved in additional affairs and had lied about being divorced.
The trial featured emotional testimony from Angela’s family and two of the couple’s children, who described the devastating loss and betrayal. Angela was remembered as a devoted mother and sister who loved woodworking, exercise, and animals.
Craig was also convicted on five additional charges, including solicitation to tamper with evidence and perjury. He declined to speak during sentencing.
The defense argued Angela was suicidal, but prosecutors presented a methodical murder plot involving poisoned protein shakes. The case has drawn national attention due to its shocking details and emotional courtroom testimony.
