The value of justice stands diminished as more than a week has passed since a brutal incident occurred inside a government vehicle, where a senior government official was physically assaulted by a top public functionary.
Despite a written complaint submitted to the Women's Police Station and a medico-legal examination confirming the assault, no FIR has been registered against the accused, Health Services Academy (HSA) Vice Chancellor Dr Shehzad.
The medico-legal certificate verifies multiple injuries sustained by Deputy Director at HSA; bruises and swelling on both eyelids, subconjunctival haemorrhage in her right eye, swelling on the bridge of her nose, and bruises on her leg. Medical experts have formally recommended that non-bailable charges be imposed based on these findings.
The complainant who was regularised as Deputy Director in April this year, states she was attacked inside an official government vehicle just before her termination notice was issued. On the same day, she was served a charge sheet accusing her of "illegal possession of a government vehicle" and subsequently dismissed from service. However, she voluntarily surrendered the vehicle at the Women's Police Station, along with her formal assault complaint.
