BALAKOT:

More than 500 tourists were rescued safely on Saturday after a sudden cloudburst in the upper region of Lake Saiful Malook, specifically in the Kundoreh area, triggered flash flooding in nearby streams, resulting in the closure of the access road to the lake.

Acting swiftly on the directives of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, over 500 stranded tourists were successfully rescued.

According to the provincial Tourism Department, the cloudburst also caused a landslide along the Saiful Malook Lake road in Naran, leaving more than 500 tourists and over 117 jeeps stranded.

The visitors had traveled from various cities across the country to the popular tourist destination.

Upon receiving the report, the K-P CM immediately directed Tourism Secretary Dr Abdul Samad to mobilise all available resources to ensure the safe evacuation of the trapped tourists. Responding without delay, Dr Samad instructed the Director General of the Kaghan Development Authority (KDA) to lead the rescue efforts.

The Authority promptly launched a coordinated rescue operation, successfully relocating all stranded tourists to safe locations.

The K-P Tourism Department has advised the tourists to remain alert during their travels.
