ISLAMABAD:

The search operation by Rescue 1122 to locate a father and daughter swept away along with their car in a stormwater drain of a private housing society in the federal capital continued for the third day on Thursday.

The body of retired Colonel Qazi Muhammad Ishaq was recovered from the River Soan, while efforts to find his daughter and the vehicle were still underway. During Thursday's operation, rescuers recovered the bumper and a door of the car from a section of the River Soan. The search for the daughter and remaining parts of the car will resume Friday (toady) morning.

According to details, on Tuesday morning, during heavy rainfall, Ishaq, a resident of Phase-V of a private housing society adjacent to Islamabad Expressway, was driving his daughter to work when their vehicle got stuck in flash floodwaters, stalled, and was swept into the stormwater channel.

Rescue 1122 teams from Rawalpindi and Islamabad, along with local administration and other agencies, launched an extensive search-and-rescue operation covering a 30-kilometre stretch from the housing society's drain to the River Soan near Gorakhpur. Divers, boats, nets, and ropes were used in the operation.

On Thursday afternoon, rescuers intensified efforts after discovering parts of the car and eventually found Ishaq's body under a bridge connecting Sector-IV and Phase-V of two private societies on GT Road. His identification documents and service card were recovered from his clothes. The body was shifted to a hospital, and funeral prayers were offered later at Jamia Masjid Noor in Phase-II of the same housing society, attended by relatives and residents.
