Netflix has officially greenlit a live-action adaptation of the blockbuster video game franchise Assassin’s Creed, nearly five years after announcing its partnership with Ubisoft. The series is being helmed by acclaimed creators Roberto Patino (Westworld) and David Wiener (Halo), who promise a sweeping, high-stakes thriller grounded in the heart of human connection.
According to the creators, the series will delve deep into the franchise’s signature themes: power, violence, identity, and faith. Set against pivotal moments in world history, the show will chronicle the eternal clash between the Assassins, who fight for freedom, and the Templars, who seek control through manipulation.
“We’re crafting something undeniable,” said Patino and Wiener in a joint statement. “This is more than action, it’s about what makes us human and what we risk losing when those bonds break.”
The series marks Netflix’s most ambitious gaming adaptation yet. It follows in the footsteps of hits like Arcane and Castlevania, signalling the streamer’s confidence in game-to-screen transformations. With more than 230 million copies sold, Assassin’s Creed ranks among the top-selling video game series of all time, known for its historical accuracy, stealth gameplay, and philosophical depth.
Peter Friedlander, Netflix’s VP of Scripted Series, called the project “an epic adventure that honours the legacy of the franchise while opening new doors for fans.”
Executive producer Margaret Boykin of Ubisoft echoed the excitement, emphasizing that the series would remain faithful to the core of what fans love, while also expanding its world to reach new audiences.
While a release date has yet to be confirmed, development is in full swing. All signs point to Assassin’s Creed becoming Netflix’s next global phenomenon.
