The father of three children, who died due to alleged poisoning by their mother in the Bani area, forgave his wife and submitted a reconciliation agreement in court after 23 days of the incident on Wednesday.
Saleem Masih, the children's father, had earlier filed the murder case against his estranged wife, has formally forgiven her and submitted a reconciliation agreement in court.
The suspect, Zonaira Bibi, was alleged to have poisoned her three children by mixing toxic substances into their milk, following a domestic dispute with her husband. The victims, 8-month-old daughter Marsiya, 2.5-year-old son Noel, and 4-year-old daughter Mansa, reportedly died in front of their mother, writhing in pain.
On June 24, Saleem Masih filed an FIR against his wife at Bani Police Station. Zonaira has since been in custody at Adiala Jail. However, a reconciliation took place between the couple.
The complainant submitted a notarised affidavit and a written agreement in court, declaring that he had forgiven his wife for the deaths of their children and does not wish to pursue the case further.
The Additional District and Sessions Judge, Shams Hussain Sial, concluded hearings on the request to acquit the accused based on the reconciliation and reserved the verdict, which is expected to be announced on July 19.
During the court proceedings, both parties' lawyers confirmed the reconciliation and stated that the complainant no longer wished to proceed with the trial.
Saleem told the court that he is a sanitary worker and that the decision to forgive his wife was made under the advice of family elders and a local jirga.
