During the Superman premiere in Los Angeles on July 7, 2025, DC Studios co-chair James Gunn confirmed that the script for The Batman: Part II, written by director Matt Reeves, has been completed.

Speaking to press on the red carpet, Gunn said he had read the finished screenplay and described it as “great.”

The sequel to The Batman (2022), which starred Robert Pattinson, remains part of a separate continuity from the main DC Universe currently being built by Gunn and producer Peter Safran.

While plot details have not been disclosed, the completed script marks a major step forward in development.

The film is currently scheduled to be released on October 1, 2027, with production expected to begin in early 2026.

Gunn also mentioned that several other DC scripts are actively in progress. These include both titles connected to the shared DCU timeline and others that, like The Batman: Part II, exist outside of it.

He emphasized that scriptwriting remains a key focus for DC Studios as the company prepares to roll out its next phase of films and series.

No casting updates or production start dates have been officially announced for The Batman: Part II.
