Jurassic World Rebirth is heading for a strong debut at the box office, aiming for a five-day opening of $127.5 million in the United States and a projected global launch exceeding $250 million.

The film opened midweek on July 2 to take advantage of the extended Fourth of July holiday corridor in North America and is rolling out internationally.

The seventh entry in the dinosaur franchise is performing at the higher end of expectations, with an opening day gross of $28 million, placing it among the top 20 Wednesday grosses in box office history.

The film, from Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Productions and Universal, features an all-new cast led by Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali and Jonathan Bailey.

Directed by Gareth Edwards, with a script by original Jurassic Park writer David Koepp, Jurassic World Rebirth follows an extraction team racing to an island research facility linked to the original Jurassic Park. During their mission, they encounter a shipwrecked family while facing dangerous creatures left on the island.

The cast also includes Rupert Friend, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Luna Blaise, David Iacono and Audrina Miranda. Producers Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley return, with Spielberg and Denis Stewart serving as executive producers.

While Rebirth is opening lower than previous Jurassic World installments, it was produced with a lower budget of $225 million before marketing costs.

Previous films in the franchise grossed over $1 billion globally each, with 2015’s Jurassic World opening to a franchise-best $208.8 million in the US.

Spielberg remains closely involved in the franchise, with Jurassic World Rebirth setting the stage for a new era of films within the iconic dinosaur saga.
