Two women killed, 15 injured as truck overturns

Victims from same extended family were returning from funeral

Two women lost their lives while 15 other people, including children, were injured when a mini-truck overturned after its tyre burst at Samundri Interchange of the M-3 Motorway.

The injured were shifted to a local hospital for treatment. The victims, all members of the same family from Lahore, were returning from a funeral in Rahim Yar Khan when the accident took place.

According to initial reports, the family was travelling in the mini-truck when one of its tyres burst on Samundri Interchange. The driver lost control of the vehicle, which crashed into the divider and overturned into bushes alongside the motorway. There were 17 people in the vehicle, all from the same extended family.

As a result of the accident, 55-year-old Rabia Bibi and 30-year-old Samia, died on the spot.

The injured include Anam, Azra Bibi, Abdul Aziz, Haroon, Amara, Shamshad Bibi, Ayan, Adnan, Abdul Ghaffar, Asma, Malaika, Gul Muhammad, Khadija, Nazir and Munawar Hussain.

Rescue 1122 and Motorway Police teams rushed to the scene and transported them to the hospital.

Police officials confirmed the bodies were handed over to the family members after the completion of legal formalities.

They said the incident was being investigated.
