A 19-year-old Tunisian woman who travelled to Karachi to marry a Lyari-based youth was taken into custody by the Tunisian Embassy following her divorce and abandonment.
According to SHO Women Police Station District Central, Uzma Khan, the woman, Sanda Ayari, approached them seeking shelter after her marriage ended in separation. Her case came to public attention after gaining traction on social media, triggering the Tunisian diplomatic mission to intervene.
Officials from the Tunisian Embassy contacted local authorities to obtain information regarding her welfare and later arrived in Karachi to take her into their care. She was subsequently shifted to Islamabad, where she is currently under the embassy's protection.
SHO Khan further stated that Sanda's Pakistani visa had expired on February 18, and after being left without financial support or legal recourse, she was unable to return home. She had appealed to officials for assistance in securing an exit permit and arranging travel back to Tunisia.
The embassy has assumed full responsibility for her repatriation, and her return to Tunisia is expected in the coming days.
