RAWALPINDI:

A highly wanted suspect, who was involved in the sexual assault and murder of a nine-year-old child, was killed in an alleged police encounter in the Wah Cantt area, police said on Thursday.

The suspect, accompanied by an accomplice, opened fire on a police team. In retaliatory firing, the suspect was killed, while his accomplice managed to escape.

According to the police, the suspect was identified as Rizwan Khan alias Buddah, who was wanted for the sexual assault and murder of a nine-year-old child three years ago. The child had left his home in Wah Cantt with his brother and was later found dead in a field. The post-mortem report and forensic evidence confirmed that the child had been sexually assaulted before being murdered.

Police officials said that solving this "blind murder" and arresting the perpetrator was a significant challenge for Rawalpindi police. For the past three years, the police had been continuously investigating the case.

Solid evidence emerged indicating that Rizwan Khan was indeed responsible for the sexual assault and murder and had been in hiding to evade arrest.

Various special teams were working on the case to apprehend the suspect. During the operation, the suspect opened fire when confronted by the police, leading to his death.
