RAWALPINDI:

An attempted robbery at a jewellery shop turned deadly in the Sadiqabad police precinct near Haroon Chowk.

A man, posing as a customer and accompanied by a woman, tried to snatch gold items from the display. When the jeweller resisted, the armed suspect opened fire, fatally injuring him.

The robber was trapped in the store and arrested, however, the woman accompanying him managed to escape. According to police, Aqeel Abbasi reported that his brother, Aqeed Abbasi, owned the jewellery shop, and both were present at the time of the incident. A young man and woman arrived on a motorcycle and asked to see gold rings.

When Aqeed showed them the rings, the man attempted to snatch the box. Upon resistance, the suspect pulled out a pistol and demanded that all the valuables be handed over.

When Aqeed resisted again, the man opened fire and injured him. As the suspect tried to flee, the shop's auto-lock glass door shut, trapping him inside. In an attempt to break the door, he struck it with the butt of his pistol and injured himself. He was eventually overpowered with the help of others nearby. He was later identified as Imran.

Meanwhile, the woman accompanying him managed to escape in the crowd and the brother Aqeed succumbed to his injuries.

The police initially treated the incident as a financial dispute. However, after receiving a formal complaint from the victim's brother, a case was registered under charges of murder and robbery, and an investigation has been launched.
