The posh and quaint neighbourhood of Defence Housing Authority Phase II rang with the crackle of gunfire as police engaged robbers fleeing from a house near the Abu Bakar Masjid on the Second South Street in the early hours of Thursday.
A mobile squad of the Defence police station had received orders to respond to a distress call about dacoits at the said house.
As the mobile rolled into the street, cops detected figures lurking in the dark; apparently, the thugs were trying to escape. However, when the police challenged them, the suspects opened fire in a bid to escape. Police returned fire, meticulously shooting only to injure and capture the suspects.
The arrested men were then rushed to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medical care. They were identified as 20-year-old Aashiq Azeem, 20-year-old Roshan Shehzado, and 22-year-old Ali Asghar.
According to the police, the suspects were attempting to rob a bungalow when the police arrived on the scene. The suspects attempted to flee and fired shots, prompting the police to respond with counter-fire, resulting in the suspects being injured and arrested.
