Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the death of a 28-year-old woman found hanged in her home in Hanjarwal, with investigators suspecting the incident had been staged as suicide.
The victim, identified as Amina, was found dead with a noose around her neck at her home in Jamal Colony.
Initial investigations suggest she may have been tortured and killed by her in-laws who allegedly hanged her body to make the death appear as suicide.
The police registered a case based on a complaint filed by the victim's father. One suspect was arrested in connection with the case.
The body was shifted for post-mortem to determine the cause of death.
Police officials stated that while the in-laws were claiming it to be a case of suicide, preliminary investigations suggested that Amina had been strangled before being hanged.
A spokesperson said, "We are conducting a thorough investigation into her death and the real reasons will emerge after the investigation is complete."
The post-mortem report is expected to provide evidence to confirm whether the death was a case of murder portrayed as suicide.
Meanwhile, Rescue 1122 divers retrieved the body of an unidentified woman from a canal near Gulzar Underpass on Tuesday.
