Province sees 216 animal handling emergencies

LAHORE:

At least 587 deaths in 13,841 medical emergencies were recorded in Punjab on the three Eidul Azha days.

In addition, 216 emergencies related to animal handling and sacrificial activities were reported during the holidays.

The emergencies included 119 occupational injuries due to knife cuts and tool mishandling while preparing sacrificial meat, and 97 incidents involving aggressive or out-of-control animals requiring rescue operations.

According to a rescue service official, in several cases, individuals were injured or trampled while slaughtering or managing animals.

Among the victims, 65 patients were shifted to hospitals, while 151 were given first aid.

During a briefing in which the date was shared, Punjab Rescue Secretary Dr Rizwan Naseer expressed grief at the loss of 587 lives due to medical emergencies, 39 due to road traffic crashes, 19 in incidents of crime, 10 due to drowning, eight due to electric shock and 110 due to other emergencies during the holidays.
