Jake Paul is edging closer to a world title shot, with a crucial bout against former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. set for June 28 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
After failed attempts to lure Canelo Alvarez and Gervonta "Tank" Davis into the ring, Paul has now set his sights on Chavez Jr.—a veteran boxer with a history of early retirements.
“This is the toughest fight of his career so far,” Paul said in a press conference. “And I’m going to humiliate him and make him quit, like he always does.”
This fight isn't just a standalone event. Paul has made it clear that he’s eyeing a potential showdown with cruiserweight world champion Gilberto "Zurdo" Ramirez. In fact, Ramirez will also be on the June 28 card, defending his title against Yuniel Dorticos in the co-main event.
The hype surrounding Paul’s rise has even reached other champions. IBF cruiserweight titleholder Jai Opetaia hinted that defeating Ramirez too quickly could spoil a future mega-fight with Jake Paul, showcasing how much commercial value Paul brings to the sport.
Paul appeared last month at a media event with two symbolic belts and shared the stage with Ramirez, clearly signaling his ambitions. Ramirez responded cautiously: “I have to take care of this opponent first. After this fight, whoever—it doesn’t matter.”
For now, all eyes are on June 28. If Paul can defeat Chavez Jr., his path toward a legitimate world title opportunity may become a reality—turning a social media star into a serious boxing contender.
