The federal government has declared four-day public holiday for Eidul-Azha, scheduled to begin on Friday, June 6, and will extend through to Monday, June 9.

According to Express News, the announcement was made by the Prime Minister, who approved and then confirmed that during the holidays, all government and private offices, educational institutions, and banks across the country will remain closed.

The decision is in line with the celebration of Eidul Azha, which is a major religious festival in Pakistan.

The announcement was preceded by sighting of moon on May 27 by Ruet-e-Hilal Committee. Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad said that the first day of Eidul Azha will be celebrated across Pakistan on June 7.

Eidul Azha marks the end of the Hajj which is one of the five pillars of Islam and should be undertaken by every Muslim who can afford to do so.
