CM orders steps to lower bread price

Urges close monitoring of the rates of chicken, vegetables and pulses

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has decided to reduce the price of 'roti' in the province.

The chief minister chaired a meeting to review measures to reduce the prices of roti and other essential edibles.

She directed the authorities concerned to fix the price of 'roti' keeping in view the reduction in the prices of flour across Punjab.

She directed the price control department to take immediate steps to reduce the bread price.

The chief minister also directed the department to closely monitor the prices of chicken, vegetables and pulses across the province.

She said on the occasion, "The poor used to eat cheap chicken once a week.

When it gets expensive, they will not be able to eat it even once a week. I cannot tolerate hike in the prices of chicken under any circumstance."

She vowed, "I pledge to bring the price of 'roti' at the lowest level in Punjab's history. The benefit of the reduction of flour price should directly reach the poor.

The new price of 'roti' will be fixed in proportion to reduction in the price of flour."

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz also launched the enrolment campaign in the Nawaz Sharif Centre of Excellence for Early Childhood Education.

Muhammad Yousuf, younger son of Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat, was among the first to enrol in the centre.
