RAWALPINDI:

A special Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Saturday again postponed the scheduled jail trial for 11 cases related to the May 9 riots until May 31. The court conducted hearing in the courtroom located at the district court complex instead of Adiala Jail court.

Copies of the challans (charge sheets) for all 11 cases were to be distributed to the founder and chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

The parties, lawyers, and accused were summoned to the jail's court at 9am.

However, the special ATC unexpectedly adjourned the trial from Adiala Jail Court to the district court courtroom.

A few accused who appeared at the district court had the copies of their challans distributed to them. The copies of the challans for the founder and chairman of PTI in these 11 cases will be distributed on the next hearing date.

Faisal Malik, the lawyer for the PTI founder, stated that his client has filed a petition requesting the consolidation of all 12 cases from the Rawalpindi Division, considering them identical, and has completed his arguments. On the next hearing date, the prosecutor will present arguments, after which the court will decide on this petition before the trial proceeds.
