The chief of the Awami National Party in Sindh, Shahi Syed, has demanded the police department be cleaned up.
In a press release issued on Saturday, he said that honest police officers have to play a part in removing criminal elements from the department. These elements produce instability in society, he said. “Supporting a criminal and protecting them is a big crime in itself.”
According to him, corrupt officials pressure witnesses and colour their statements for their own interest. The police department has to play a positive role to restore peace in the city. People hesitate to point out criminals and they don’t trust the police any more. Shahi Syed said that the police department has to work above any political affiliation and give protection to witnesses.
