A massive wildfire in the mountainous region of Thana Baizai tehsil in Malakand remains out of control for the fifth consecutive day. The blaze, which broke out under mysterious circumstances, has now spread across approximately 13 kilometres, inflicting severe damage on local wildlife and forests.
According to details, the fire began five days ago in the Nogran Shakaro area and quickly engulfed adjacent mountain ranges, including Ganiyar and Aala Dhund Dheri. Despite continuous efforts by Rescue 1122 teams, Malakand Levies, forest department personnel, and local residents, the fire has not been contained.
Spokesperson for Rescue 1122 Sadiq Malik informed the media that the challenging terrain and intense heat have made firefighting operations extremely difficult.
"Our firefighters have made valiant efforts, but the lack of accessible routes makes it nearly impossible to reach the affected areas. Still, our personnel are risking their lives to combat the flames," he stated.
The wildfire has caused significant ecological devastation, with large-scale losses reported in both flora and fauna. Authorities continue to monitor the situation as efforts persist to bring the fire under control.
Last week, a tragic incident occurred in Hashim Khel Dab village of Shangla district in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, where a husband and wife lost their lives while attempting to extinguish a forest fire.
The fire, which had erupted in the Kamach Kariga forests due to unknown reasons, spread rapidly toward nearby residential areas.
As it approached their home, Hakimzada, son of Abdul Wadood, and his wife Hajiron tried valiantly to prevent the flames from reaching their property. In doing so, both suffered fatal burns and died at the scene.
The couple's selfless and courageous attempt to stop the fire has been widely mourned by political and social figures.
