Smoke emitting vehicles' owners given 15 days deadline
A vehicular emission control campaign, launched on May 5 under the directives of Sindh Secretary for Environment, Climate Change, and Coastal Development Agha Shahnawaz, is being strictly enforced across Karachi under a zero-tolerance policy against environmental pollution.
In joint operations by the Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) and traffic police, inspections have been conducted on 133 vehicles so far. Of these, 94 were cleared, while 39 were fined on the spot for emitting excessive smoke. Red stickers were placed on non-compliant vehicles, granting a 15-day grace period for correction, failing which the vehicles will be barred from the road. Green stickers are being issued to environment-friendly vehicles.
