The 78th annual Cannes Film Festival opened with a high-profile red carpet attended by international celebrities, including actors Eva Longoria and Heidi Klum, and Spanish Formula One driver Carlos Sainz Jr. The trio appeared at the opening ceremony and screening of the French film Partir Un Jour (Leave One Day), held at the Palais des Festivals.

Longoria wore a piece from Tamara Ralph’s Spring-Summer 2025 couture collection, while Klum opted for an Elie Saab ensemble. This year’s updated dress code at Cannes didn’t interfere with Klum’s dramatic train, which made a flawless red carpet appearance.

Robert De Niro received the honorary Palme d’Or from Leonardo DiCaprio, moments before the premiere of Partir Un Jour. De Niro attended the event with his partner, Tiffany Chen.

The competition jury, led by French actress Juliette Binoche, also walked the red carpet. Other jury members included Jeremy Strong, Alba Rohrwacher, Payal Kapadia, Leïla Slimani, Carlos Reygadas, Dieudo Hamadi, Hong Sangsoo, and Halle Berry.

The festival will continue until 24 May, with major appearances expected from Tom Cruise, Scarlett Johansson, Kristen Stewart, and others. The 2025 edition promises a strong international lineup and a star-studded fortnight of premieres, tributes, and global cinema showcases.
