Halle Berry revealed that she had to make a last-minute change to her outfit ahead of the 2025 Cannes Film Festival's opening night due to the festival's newly imposed red carpet regulations.

The actress shared during a jury press conference that the dress she had initially planned to wear, designed by Gupta, featured an extravagant train that would not comply with the festival's updated dress code.

The new guidelines, announced just before the festival began, prohibit "excessively voluminous" clothing, as well as nudity. Cannes organizers have explained that these changes were made in accordance with the “institutional framework” of the event and French law, which prohibits full nudity on the red carpet. The festival also clarified that any attire that might obstruct movement or complicate seating arrangements in the screening rooms would be denied entry.

“I had an amazing dress by Gupta that I cannot wear tonight because it’s too big of a train,” Berry said. "The nudity part is also probably a good rule," she added, indicating her support for the new restrictions.

Berry, who is serving on the jury for this year’s competition alongside notable figures like “Succession” actor Jeremy Strong and filmmakers Payal Kapadia and Carlos Reygadas, expressed her understanding of the festival’s intentions behind the changes. Despite the dress setback, she remains committed to following the new rules set for the prestigious event.

The updated regulations aim to balance celebrity style with practicality and compliance, ensuring the red carpet remains orderly and accessible for all attendees.
