ISLAMABAD:

The Foreign Office on Saturday said that all elements of national power remained committed to ensuring Pakistan's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In a press statement, following the announcement of a ceasefire agreement between Pakistan and India, the spokesperson said that the armed forces were obligated to take all measures for defending the motherland, its citizens and in contributing to securing Pakistan's vital national interests.

"This obligation is a sacred trust of the proud, resilient, brave and honourable people of Pakistan."

The spokesperson emphasised that Pakistan had mounted a very responsible, proportionate and mature response for the sake of regional peace and stability.

While confirming the ceasefire understanding between Pakistan and India, he stressed the need to view recent developments in the correct perspective.

In response to the firing of BrahMos missiles over several locations across the international border, Pakistan was compelled to retaliate against unprovoked and unlawful Indian aggression under its right to self-defence, as enshrined in Article 51 of the UN Charter.

Consequently, Pakistan launched Operation Bunyan-ul-Marsoos early Saturday.

"Without a shred of evidence, and disregarding Pakistan's offer for a neutral, transparent and credible investigation by international investigators, India launched multiple strikes during the nights of 7-10 May 2025 which caused loss of innocent lives, including women, children and the elderly. These indiscriminate attacks seriously injured dozens, in addition to causing damage to infrastructure, including places of worship," the spokesperson said.

He said that, as if the grave human and material toll of the missile and drone attacks on the night of 6 and 7 May was not enough, India further endangered regional peace and stability by launching additional waves of killer drones across Pakistan, including into the federal capital.

These drones and loitering munitions struck several civilian and military assets, inflicted further damage, and created a heightened sense of insecurity among the population. Multiple missiles were also fired, targeting Pakistani air bases.

Despite the blatant aggression and persistent provocation, Pakistan exercised great restraint, the statement said. Nevertheless, it was compelled to respond to ensure the safety and security of its citizens.

"Notwithstanding the incessant provocations, our response deliberately avoided civilian casualties and was precise, proportionate, minutely calibrated, and manifestly restrained. Only those entities and facilities were targeted which planned, coordinated, and executed blatant aggression against Pakistan and the cold-blooded killing of its innocent civilians," the spokesperson added.

These targets, it was clarified, included Indian airbases used to launch missile attacks on Pakistan. Irrefutable evidence of this had already been shared with the international community.

Calling the episode a dangerous conflagration between two nuclear-armed states, he called for deeper introspection and a holistic appraisal by the international community.
