ISLAMABAD:

India crossed all limits of international laws when it targeted civilians in the wee hours of Wednesday, but it went further ahead with treacherous bombing of Pakistan's Neelum Jhelum Hydro Project, ratcheting up its ongoing water terrorism against Pakistan, security sources said.

They said that the Indian shelling, targeting the intake structure of the Nauseri Dam on the Neelum river, began at 2am, damaging the intake gates in the de-sander unit and a hydraulic protection unit of the hydraulic system.

An ambulance parked nearby was also damaged in the attack, highlighting India's reckless disregard for human life and international norms. "The attack is a clear violation of international laws," a source said. "Targeting sensitive places like water resources is an egregious breach of international norms."

India's water aggression began after it suspended the 65-year-old Indus Water Treaty (IWT) on April 23. With providing even a shred of evidence, India blamed Pakistan for the killing of 26 people in Pahalgam. Last week, it also tampered with the flow of the Chenab river.

"The situation is still serious and disturbing," warned Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, while s-peaking in the National Assembly on Wednesday. "Neelum-Jhelum has been attacked," he added. "The war may escalate further. When such a situation occurs, a response will have to be given."
