Disney has revealed plans to open a new theme park in Abu Dhabi, described as the company’s most tech-centric park to date.
This will be Disney's seventh theme park resort and is being developed in partnership with Miral, an Abu Dhabi-based company known for creating immersive destinations. The park will be located on Yas Island, a popular entertainment hub known for its stunning views and architectural landmarks.
Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed that, unlike the company’s other six parks worldwide, the Abu Dhabi theme park will not be owned by Disney. Instead, the park will be part of a licensing deal with Miral, with Disney providing intellectual property and receiving royalties. Iger explained that Disney will oversee the design and development but will not directly operate the park, unlike the company’s other resorts such as Disneyland and Walt Disney World.
The new park, which will incorporate Disney’s iconic characters, stories, and attractions, is designed to blend Disney's legacy with the modern and cultural essence of Abu Dhabi. The resort will feature themed accommodations, unique dining and retail experiences, and immersive entertainment. Iger emphasized that the park will celebrate both the heritage of Disney and the futuristic essence of the UAE capital.
Disney has not yet provided a timeline for the park’s opening but assured fans that further details would be shared as the project progresses. The park is expected to offer a new kind of entertainment experience, with an emphasis on cutting-edge technology and immersive storytelling, capitalizing on its waterfront location.
Miral’s chairman, Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, expressed his excitement about the partnership, stating that the collaboration would create a unique experience blending creativity with the region’s heritage. With Disney's involvement, the Abu Dhabi theme park is set to become a major new attraction for the Middle East and beyond, inspiring generations of families with its magical experiences.
