Steve Kerr offers update on Stephen Curry after injury against Timberwolves

Stephen Curry exits with a hamstring injury as Warriors take Game 1; Steve Kerr unsure if star will return for Game 2.

The Golden State Warriors opened their second-round playoff series with a confident 99-88 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday night—but the win came with a major scare as Stephen Curry left the game early with a left hamstring injury.

The two-time MVP and face of the franchise exited in the second quarter after scoring 13 points in just 13 minutes. Curry was seen clutching his hamstring and heading straight to the locker room, casting a shadow over what had been a promising start for the Warriors.

Speaking after the game, head coach Steve Kerr offered a cautious update.

“Just day-to-day. We'll get an MRI tomorrow,” Kerr said. “I talked to him at halftime—he’s obviously crushed. But the guys picked him up and played a great game.”

Kerr suggested the team is already preparing for Game 2 without their star guard.

“We're definitely game-planning for him not to be available on Thursday,” he admitted. “With a hamstring, it’s hard to imagine he’d play.”

Curry’s potential absence is a significant blow for the Warriors, who have leaned heavily on his leadership and scoring throughout the playoffs. He averaged 24 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 5.7 assists in the first round and remains the team’s emotional core.

Despite losing Curry midgame, the Warriors responded with grit and depth. Draymond Green took the reins, delivering 18 points, eight rebounds, and six assists.

Buddy Hield led all scorers with 24 points and nailed a crucial three-pointer in the fourth quarter to snuff out a Timberwolves comeback attempt. Jimmy Butler added 20 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists in a well-rounded, veteran performance.

Game 2 is set for May 8. While the Warriors have proven they can survive a night without Curry, the outcome of the MRI could define the rest of their postseason.
