Smokey Robinson has been named in a civil lawsuit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, where four former employees accuse him of rape, sexual assault, harassment, false imprisonment, and gender violence. The plaintiffs, who filed under the pseudonym Jane Doe, allege misconduct that took place between 2006 and 2024.
The lawsuit also names Robinson’s wife, Frances Robinson, claiming she had knowledge of past incidents and failed to take action to prevent further abuse. Jane Doe 1 states that Frances was aware of prior settlements involving other women and alleges that her inaction enabled continued misconduct.
The legal complaint describes the acts as “willful, wanton, and malicious,” and says they were committed with disregard for the victims’ rights and wellbeing.
Jane Doe 2 claims she worked for the couple from 2014 until 2020 and left due to repeated harassment and assaults, which allegedly began in 2016. Jane Doe 3 alleges that during her employment from 2012 to 2024, she was raped at least 20 times. Jane Doe 4, who was employed as a housekeeper from 2006 to 2024, makes similar claims of sustained sexual harassment and assault over 17 years.
The plaintiffs are seeking no less than $50 million in damages. Their legal team states that the women endured long-term emotional trauma, financial hardship, and a loss of professional opportunities due to their experiences.
A press conference has been scheduled in downtown Los Angeles to present additional details and answer questions regarding the case. Representatives for Smokey and Frances Robinson have not responded to media inquiries as of this writing.
No criminal charges have been filed, and the case remains a civil matter.
