
The death toll from the Nushki oil tanker explosion has climbed to 20, after another critically injured victim succumbed to burn injuries while undergoing treatment in Karachi, rescue sources confirmed on Tuesday.
The incident occurred near a truck terminal in Nushki when an oil tanker caught fire and exploded, injuring more than 40 people. Many had gathered around the vehicle before the blast.
The deceased, identified as Shaukat, was hailed for his heroic act during the April 28 incident. Despite being engulfed in flames, he had attempted to drive the burning tanker away from a densely populated area, Express News reported.
He sustained severe burns when the tanker exploded and had been under treatment at a private hospital in Karachi.
Earlier, in the wake of the tragedy, Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind expressed his condolences to the grieving families.
He reaffirmed the provincial government's commitment to providing the best possible medical care to those injured in the blast which has claimed numerous lives and left the community reeling.
The incident has sparked widespread concern over the safety protocols surrounding the transport of hazardous materials.
Authorities have launched a formal inquiry into the cause of the fire, with an aim to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
