Snapchat faced a major global outage on Sunday, disrupting service for users in Pakistan and multiple other countries. The platform’s users reported being unable to send messages, share photos and videos, or access their accounts.
According to outage tracker Downdetector, the disruption affected thousands of users globally, with a noticeable surge in complaints from Pakistan, the UK, and France. In Pakistan, cities such as Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi, and Peshawar saw high volumes of user reports.
Data from Downdetector indicated that 57% of users were logged out of the app, while 24% faced problems with sending snaps and 18% experienced issues with uploading content.
As of 6:00 PM (local time), around 53% of Pakistani users were still reporting problems, with 28% unable to share content and 19% unable to upload.
Snapchat has yet to release an official explanation for the disruption. However, technology experts suspect a possible server-side issue or glitch related to a recent update.
Some users noted that Snapchat was accessible via VPN, sparking speculation that region-specific access restrictions may be contributing to the problem.
A Downdetector heatmap confirmed widespread service instability globally, underscoring the scale of the outage.
The platform noted that such outages are flagged only when incident reports exceed normal thresholds — a condition clearly met in this case.
