Electronic Arts (EA) has laid off over 300 employees as part of a broader restructuring initiative to align its teams and resources for future growth.
This follows a similar move in 2023 when EA reduced its workforce by 1,130 employees.
These recent layoffs, reportedly affecting between 300 and 400 workers, include cuts to Respawn Entertainment, the studio behind Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi.
The company has confirmed these layoffs, calling them “select changes” designed to better focus on long-term strategic priorities.
In addition to the layoffs, EA has canceled several in-development projects, including a new Titanfall game, which was in its early stages.
This project, codenamed R7, was an extraction shooter set within the Titanfall universe, blending the franchise's iconic mechs with parkour elements.
Respawn acknowledged the cancellations, noting that they are refocusing resources on existing franchises, particularly Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi.
The layoffs, which particularly impacted Respawn's teams working on these titles, have prompted the studio to scale back its ambitions for other unannounced games.
These cuts come just months after the company previewed a new Star Wars tactics game, Star Wars Zero Company, signaling its ongoing focus on high-potential franchises.
Despite the layoffs, EA's top executives, including CEO Andrew Wilson, reportedly earned $60 million in fiscal year 2024, highlighting the ongoing disparity between executive pay and workforce reductions.
The company’s commitment to player-first experiences for Apex Legends and future Star Wars Jediinstallments remains unchanged.
