Disney will premiere the first two episodes of its new animated series Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld inside Fortnite ahead of the show’s official debut on Disney+ on 4 May. This move is part of a broader collaboration with Epic Games to develop a new digital experience built around Disney properties.
The episodes will be available from 2 May through a dedicated Star Wars Watch Party island in Fortnite. Viewers can also take part in themed in-game battles while watching the series. The animated anthology, led by Dave Filoni, explores criminal networks within the Star Wars universe.
Coinciding with the launch, Fortnite will debut its latest themed season, Galactic Battle, featuring new Star Wars content. Players who link their Epic Games and myDisney accounts will unlock a special stormtrooper skin and gain access to upcoming integrated experiences across both platforms.
“This is the first time Disney+ is premiering a show inside a game, launching alongside our largest Star Wars collaboration with Fortnite to date,” said Sean Shoptaw, executive vice president of Disney Games & Digital Entertainment. “We’re building the next era of digital entertainment, where fans can play, watch, create and connect.”
Epic Games president Adam Sussman echoed the sentiment: “We are reimagining what’s possible with immersive storytelling in Fortnite with one of the world’s most beloved franchises.”
The expanded partnership follows Disney’s $1.5 billion investment in Epic Games, announced in early 2024.
Though the full details of the planned digital universe remain undisclosed, the companies have already incorporated Marvel and Star Wars properties into Fortnite through playable characters and exclusive content.
