Alizeh Shah took to Instagram Stories on Sunday to announce some drastic changes to her profile. "I quit," she wrote. "This place is worse than hell."
Following this, she has removed all her posts on the social media platform and cleared her following list. She also updated her bio to "Not dead."
All that remains now are two Highlights; one confirms that she doesn't have a Snapchat account and the other is related to Gaza. The single post from the latter Highlight reads, "I choose not to post the violence, not because I don't see it, but because my heart can't carry it. I donate, I pray, and I stand with Gaza. Not everything has to be on display."
The move elicited mixed reactions from users online, with many wondering if this change is temporary and others wishing the actor well with her mental struggles.
Prior to this update, Alizeh was known for speaking her mind on social media, which often drew criticism from netizens. In one of her latest posts, she opened up about the lengths netizens would go to criticise her.
"Lately, it feels like no matter what I do, someone finds a reason to be upset with me," she wrote. "I stay quiet, I try to mind my own life, but still the judgment never stops. So many harsh words - and most of them in the name of religion."
The Ehde Wafa actor expressed confusion and sadness over how something as personal as faith is being weaponised online. "I don't understand why faith, something so beautiful and personal, is being used to spread so much hate."
She made it clear she wasn't trying to argue or defend herself. "I never had the strength for that. All I know is that my connection with Allah is something I carry in my heart, in silence. I'm still learning. Still growing."
The post ended with a plea: "Please, be gentle. Not everyone is as strong as they seem."
