A special Anti-Corruption Court (ACC) for the Rawalpindi Division on Tuesday took strong notice of the investigating officers' (IOs) failure to submit challans (charge sheets) in hundreds of cases timely, directing them to submit challans in all pending cases on the next hearing dates.
Judge Khawar Rasheed issued the directions to the IOs associated with the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) in Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Attock, Chakwal, Talagang, and Murree districts to submit challans in hundreds of corruption, fraud, and land-grabbing cases, some involving embezzlement worth millions of rupees.
The judge had assumed charge of the court just last week.
At present, nearly 400 cases are pending in the court, and in approximately 80% of these, challans have not been submittedeven after one to two years in many instances.
Among these is the high-profile case against former federal information minister Chaudhry Fawad Hussain. Despite court orders issued two years ago, no challan has been submitted in his case.
The court specifically directed the ACE Police of the Jhelum district to submit the challan in the ex-minister's case without further delay.
