Dubai International Airport (DXB) has once again been named the World’s Busiest International Airport, welcoming nearly 92.3 million passengers in 2024, according to data released by the Airports Council International (ACI) World on Monday.
The emirate successfully maintained its leading position for the second consecutive year, reinforcing its role as a global aviation powerhouse. DXB was followed by London, Seoul (Incheon), Singapore, and Amsterdam, while Paris, Istanbul, Frankfurt, Hong Kong, and Doha rounded off the top 10 list.
“Amid global challenges, the resilience of the world’s busiest airports shines,” said ACI World Director General Justin Erbacci in the accompanying press release. “These hubs are vital arteries of trade, commerce, and connectivity.”
Preliminary 2024 figures from ACI show that global passenger numbers neared 5 billion, marking a 9% increase over 2023 and a 3.8% rise from pre-pandemic levels in 2019.
The top 10 busiest international airports collectively handled 855 million passengers, accounting for 9% of global traffic and showing an 8.8% growth from 2023.
In the overall global airport rankings, which include both domestic and international travel, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport held on to the top position. It was followed by Dubai International and Dallas Fort Worth International Airport.
Looking ahead, ACI highlighted several challenges facing the aviation industry, including economic uncertainty, geopolitical tensions, and capacity constraints. The council affirmed its commitment to supporting airports worldwide in navigating these evolving dynamics.
Dubai’s continued dominance underscores its strategic location, world-class infrastructure, and role as a major transit hub connecting East and West.
