A petition to rename Nashville International Airport (BNA) after country music icon Dolly Parton has surpassed 50,000 signatures since its launch on 21 January 2025. The petition, hosted on Change.org, highlights Parton’s legacy in music and philanthropy as grounds for renaming the airport in her honour.

The campaign was initiated in response to a separate proposal suggesting the airport be renamed after former President Donald Trump. Supporters of the Parton petition argue that the singer-songwriter better represents Tennessee’s cultural contributions and values.

The petition states, “As proud citizens of Tennessee, we are motivated by our deep-rooted admiration for the national treasure and Tennessee legend, Dolly Parton.” It goes on to cite her Imagination Library programme, which has distributed over 100 million books to children globally since 1995, as an example of her social impact.

“Dolly's philanthropic efforts, her outstanding influence in the music industry, and the love she has instilled in our hearts through her actions and songs, truly make her a deserving candidate to have the Nashville International Airport named after her,” the petition reads.

Despite the petition's growing support, Tennessee lawmakers have yet to issue any official statements or propose related legislation, according to local reports. The airport currently retains its original designation, BNA, which stands for Berry Field Nashville. The name honours Colonel Harry S. Berry, a World War I veteran and the airport's first administrator.

Opponents of both the Trump and Parton proposals cite the historical significance of the BNA designation as a reason to preserve the existing name. While the debate continues, the petition remains active, drawing further attention on social media and in local media coverage.
