Scattered rain, hail expected across parts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa

Rainfall data highlights variation in intensity across mountainous and lowland areas

Scattered rain and hail are expected in parts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) over the next 24 hours as a partially cloudy weather system moves through the region, Pakistan’s Meteorological Department (PMD) said Thursday.

The forecast indicates thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds in areas including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla and Malakand, Express News reported.

Hailstorms are also possible in isolated locations.

Rain is also likely in Mansehra, Torghar, Kohistan, Battagram and Abbottabad, along with parts of Khyber, Orakzai, Mohmand, Swabi, Mardan, Nowshera, Charsadda and Peshawar.

Southern regions including Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, Lakki Marwat, Karak, and North and South Waziristan may also experience thunder and rain.

On Wednesday, Peshawar saw light rain, while Dir recorded the highest rainfall at 15 mm. Other notable figures included 11 mm in Malam Jabba, 10 mm in Pattan (Kohistan), 9 mm in Kalam, 4 mm in Saidu Sharif (Swat), and 1 mm in Chitral.

Temperatures remained moderate across the province. Peshawar recorded a high of 21°C, while Chitral stood at 12°C. Dir Bala saw 9°C, Kalam 7°C, and Malam Jabba 8°C. In the south, Dera Ismail Khan registered 23°C and Bannu 22°C.

Weather authorities have advised residents and travellers to remain cautious due to the potential for sudden weather shifts and localised storms.
