The number of registered businesses and companies with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has crossed 12.5 million, according to official figures presented in the National Assembly, Express News reported.

Data shared with lawmakers reveals that over the past three years, the number of registered business taxpayers has increased by 5.3 million — a notable rise indicating broader engagement with the formal tax system.

Of the total registered entities, approximately 8.2 million are based in Punjab, while Sindh accounts for 2.876 million. In Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, 818,000 businesses and companies are registered, followed by Islamabad with 467,000 and Balochistan with 221,000.

The figures reflect a growing trend of businesses entering the formal economy, a key objective of the government's ongoing tax reforms and digital registration initiatives.
