The Global Undergraduate Exchange Programme (Global UGRAD) for Pakistan has officially come to a close after 15 years, the United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) confirmed on Tuesday.
The semester-long exchange initiative, which allowed Pakistani undergraduate students to study at a US university or college for one non-degree semester, was administered by the USEFP and funded by the US government.
In a statement, the Foundation announced: "We regret to inform you that after 15 incredible years, the Global Undergraduate Exchange Programme for Pakistan has come to an end. The US Department of State informed USEFP that the Global UGRAD-Pakistan Programme will no longer be offered. We understand that this news may be disappointing, especially for those who applied this year and were looking forward to this opportunity."
The USEFP described the programme as having offered "life-changing experiences" to thousands of students across its run, facilitating academic enrichment, cultural exchange and leadership development.
Launched in 2010, the programme aimed to cultivate a spirit of service and leadership among Pakistani youth while enhancing their engagement within their communities.
In its farewell message, USEFP expressed pride in the transformative role the exchange had played.
"While this chapter is closing, we encourage you to explore other exchange and scholarship opportunities that may align with your aspirations," it said.
